So Exciting! :)

Hello everyone! It's Gabrielle! :) I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas and wonderful time spent with family the past couple weeks. I know I've really enjoyed being home with my family! Next week is the start of yet another quarter of my college career. It will be quarter number 5, Advanced Tech. It's my last lab for my culinary degree, so I’m super excited! I'm nervous because I'm not sure what to expect, but so far I've done well in all other labs, so no worries! :) If you’re going to school for something you really want to do and enjoy then it won’t seem so much like college and school. You will have so much fun and be so excited! I can't believe how fast this year has went by, but here I am! Just don't let things bring you down and keep pushing forward towards your goal! Always have fun no matter what! :)

work hard

Hey everyone! I can't believe the first of december is tomorrow! I hope everyone is excited for the snow, sledding, and holidays! In about two weeks the fall quarter will be over and I will be heading back home to Bolingbrook, Illinois! Over the past year and a half I have had ups and downs but have learned so much about myself and life. Being in college has made me grow as a person and has set up many of opportunties. This quarter I accomplished an internship at The Brown Hotel in downtown Louisville. I had the oppurtunity to work with alot of great people and learned so much. Today I talked to the Executive Chef at The Brown Hotel and he has contacts in Chicago, Il. Since he has contacts, he is sending my resume to restaurants and hotels in Chicago for me to hopefully recieve a great job. If you try and do a great job at your internship, you might get the same chance to recieve a job from the Chef or get a job in the same place you interned at. The hospitality industry is mostly about who you know. While you start your journey at Sullivan University, start to gain contacts and work as hard as you can. You never know what can come out of your experience!

Kaye-Kaye :)

                                                                  P.S. Work hard but....
also make sure you have some fun while your at college!

Exicted For Christmas!

Hey everyone, Carly here.
Just wanted to stop by and get everyone as pumped for Christmas as I am!
There are lots of event happening right here on campus to get everyone involved this holiday season. Just today Sullivan Activities Committee Kicked of the Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign and I encourage all of you to take part!
Something as simple as filling out a Christmas card for our soldiers can be a really kind gesture that will brighten their day and spread the holiday cheer.
Also we have had a Christmas Stocking Project going on this month that is working to fill and deliver Christmas stokings to children of inmates in local prisons who would otherwise not recieve Christmas gifts!!
Sullivan students do a great job in helping the community and I love being a part of that! Stop by in the A La Carte Cafe and fill out a card while you can!!!!! :))))
Happy Holidays to all!!!!!!

almost done with the fall quarter!

Hey guys! Its Mei again :). Its is week 9 (you may already know that we go by weeks - 11 weeks per quarter) and so close to finishing the fall quarter! Today was the first day back at school from Sullivan's week-long Thanksgiving Break. Yes, a whole week! So, I got to go home (about 2 hours away) which was exciting because i knew that i was going to be cooking and baking as well! I successfully made 3 pies - 2 strawberry and one apple - and they turned out really good :) .. this was awesome because i got to put the concepts that i have learned in Baking Lab 1 into practice. I also wanted to make eclairs because that is part of our final exam in Baking Lab 1 and so i really wanted to practice that so that i could do great on the exam. Our Chef Instructors always tell us what our final is ahead of time and i think that that is so so so helpful so that way we can be prepared; and should really take advantage of it by simply going to Plus Fridays. (fridays are basically a day for you to go to school and practice anything that you are struggling with, mastering other skills, and/or simply a make-up day).
Talk to you guys soon!

November is here!

Hey guys, this is Halie :)
It is currently week 7 of the fall quater. It is simply amazing how fast time is flying by. I mean, can you believe it? I am almost halfway to an associates degree in baking and pastry arts. That is simply unbelievable! Currently, I am in Baking Lab II with Chef Woehrle. She is just simply amazing. How passionate she is about bread is just truly inspirational. During the last weekend of October, I had the chance to participate in cupcake wars. It was hilarious. Chef brought in a ton of fun hats and we just had a blast. That, and I earned internship hours! How awesome is it to have a job with something you love? I mean really, eventually I will be getting paid to bake. That, is truly having your cake, and eating it too.
Love,
Halie

A Step in the Right Direction

Hi everyone,
My name is Carly Reynolds and I am also a student ambassador here at Sullivan University. I am in my second quarter working on my associates degree in Culinary Arts. My life is super exciting right now as I just started my new job at The Crowne Plaza. One week in and I absolutely love it. It all started when I attended Sullivans Career Fair in the summer quarter. There I met Executive Chef Paul Sant and after talking with him I was offered a position working at The Crowne with him. It still blows my mind, 18 years old, almost half-way through my associates degree, and already a great job in my career field. Needless to say this would ever be possible without Sullivan University. :)

Programs!

Hey everyone! It's Lori again. As many of you may or may not know Sullivan tries very hard to put on great programs for students. Between student activities club and the RAs at Gardiner Point we are always working hard to give students something fun to do. One recent, really fantastic program that I was a part of was the Haunted House at Gardiner Point! It was oodles of fun and a great turn out! Check out the video on youtube! (http://www.youtube.com/user/SullivanUniversityKy?feature=mhee) As I said, it was so much fun! Apart from the haunted house, there are many great programs to keep students busy, and we always except ideas for new ones!

Confidence

Hey guys! I'm a Sullivan student ambassador! My name is Gabrielle and I am currently in my 4th quarter here. I'm duel majoring in Culinary and Baking and Pastry and absolutely love it! There's a little about me, now I want to talk about something that I am personally finding to help me through my college career. I have figured out quickly while being here that I do not have much confidence in myself. I can't seem to figure out why, but I just don't. I've learned through being here and talking to Chefs, that if I would let go and believe in myself and have confidence, I would be amazing at what I'm doing. I've been told this is the right place for me, but I can't keep second-guessing my choices. The reality of this is you can do anything you want, you can go anywhere you want to go and be anyone you want to be; but the key is to have confidence in yourself and what you are seeking to obtain. Don't second-guess yourself and the choices you are making. Go in to it whole-hearted and you will come out winning! If you ever need something, let me know!

Being a RA.

Hey everyone!  So, it's the start of week 4! Its crazy how fast time flies each quarter. I'm completely loving my new position as RA at Gardiner Point. Just within these few I have met so many new people and gained so many new skills! One of my favorite parts of being an RA is getting to put on programs for other residents as well as getting to make decorations for everyone's doors! Although it can be stressful at times, I still enjoy getting to help residents through tough times and making their stay at Gardiner Point enjoyable.

Second Quarter

Hi everyone! My name is Mei (may) and i am a Student Ambassador at Sullivan. I just wanted to start off by saying i am in the Baking and Pastry Arts program here and wanted to share my experience so far. This is my second quarter and i am completely loving it so far! I've learned so much from my chef instructors and regular teachers as well. I've met a lot of people and became friends with them, which is really fun and adds to the great "college experience"! I'll share a picture of me in lab: Baking 1 - piping icing on danishes.

Hey everyone! I am one of the Sullivan Student Ambassadors! My name is Kathleen but everyone knows me as Kaye-Kaye! I am in my 6th quarter at Sullivan and I absolutely love it here! Being away from my hometown in illinois can be hard at times but the University and being in Kentucky is great! Today was the start of week 3 for the fall quarter and it is going very smoothly. I can't believe it is week 3. Soon enough it will be Thanksgiving break and then the quarter break! If anyone has any questions about Sullivan University or Kentucky you can let me know!
