work hard

Hey everyone! I can't believe the first of december is tomorrow! I hope everyone is excited for the snow, sledding, and holidays! In about two weeks the fall quarter will be over and I will be heading back home to Bolingbrook, Illinois! Over the past year and a half I have had ups and downs but have learned so much about myself and life. Being in college has made me grow as a person and has set up many of opportunties. This quarter I accomplished an internship at The Brown Hotel in downtown Louisville. I had the oppurtunity to work with alot of great people and learned so much. Today I talked to the Executive Chef at The Brown Hotel and he has contacts in Chicago, Il. Since he has contacts, he is sending my resume to restaurants and hotels in Chicago for me to hopefully recieve a great job. If you try and do a great job at your internship, you might get the same chance to recieve a job from the Chef or get a job in the same place you interned at. The hospitality industry is mostly about who you know. While you start your journey at Sullivan University, start to gain contacts and work as hard as you can. You never know what can come out of your experience!

                                                                  P.S. Work hard but....
also make sure you have some fun while your at college!

Exicted For Christmas!

Hey everyone, Carly here.
Just wanted to stop by and get everyone as pumped for Christmas as I am!
There are lots of event happening right here on campus to get everyone involved this holiday season. Just today Sullivan Activities Committee Kicked of the Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign and I encourage all of you to take part!
Something as simple as filling out a Christmas card for our soldiers can be a really kind gesture that will brighten their day and spread the holiday cheer.
Also we have had a Christmas Stocking Project going on this month that is working to fill and deliver Christmas stokings to children of inmates in local prisons who would otherwise not recieve Christmas gifts!!
Sullivan students do a great job in helping the community and I love being a part of that! Stop by in the A La Carte Cafe and fill out a card while you can!!!!! :))))
Happy Holidays to all!!!!!!

almost done with the fall quarter!

Hey guys! Its Mei again :). Its is week 9 (you may already know that we go by weeks - 11 weeks per quarter) and so close to finishing the fall quarter! Today was the first day back at school from Sullivan's week-long Thanksgiving Break. Yes, a whole week! So, I got to go home (about 2 hours away) which was exciting because i knew that i was going to be cooking and baking as well! I successfully made 3 pies - 2 strawberry and one apple - and they turned out really good :) .. this was awesome because i got to put the concepts that i have learned in Baking Lab 1 into practice. I also wanted to make eclairs because that is part of our final exam in Baking Lab 1 and so i really wanted to practice that so that i could do great on the exam. Our Chef Instructors always tell us what our final is ahead of time and i think that that is so so so helpful so that way we can be prepared; and should really take advantage of it by simply going to Plus Fridays. (fridays are basically a day for you to go to school and practice anything that you are struggling with, mastering other skills, and/or simply a make-up day).
Talk to you guys soon!

November is here!

Hey guys, this is Halie :)
It is currently week 7 of the fall quater. It is simply amazing how fast time is flying by. I mean, can you believe it? I am almost halfway to an associates degree in baking and pastry arts. That is simply unbelievable! Currently, I am in Baking Lab II with Chef Woehrle. She is just simply amazing. How passionate she is about bread is just truly inspirational. During the last weekend of October, I had the chance to participate in cupcake wars. It was hilarious. Chef brought in a ton of fun hats and we just had a blast. That, and I earned internship hours! How awesome is it to have a job with something you love? I mean really, eventually I will be getting paid to bake. That, is truly having your cake, and eating it too.
Love,
Halie

A Step in the Right Direction

Hi everyone,
My name is Carly Reynolds and I am also a student ambassador here at Sullivan University. I am in my second quarter working on my associates degree in Culinary Arts. My life is super exciting right now as I just started my new job at The Crowne Plaza. One week in and I absolutely love it. It all started when I attended Sullivans Career Fair in the summer quarter. There I met Executive Chef Paul Sant and after talking with him I was offered a position working at The Crowne with him. It still blows my mind, 18 years old, almost half-way through my associates degree, and already a great job in my career field. Needless to say this would ever be possible without Sullivan University. :)

Programs!

Hey everyone! It's Lori again. As many of you may or may not know Sullivan tries very hard to put on great programs for students. Between student activities club and the RAs at Gardiner Point we are always working hard to give students something fun to do. One recent, really fantastic program that I was a part of was the Haunted House at Gardiner Point! It was oodles of fun and a great turn out! Check out the video on youtube! (http://www.youtube.com/user/SullivanUniversityKy?feature=mhee) As I said, it was so much fun! Apart from the haunted house, there are many great programs to keep students busy, and we always except ideas for new ones!
